Question about my EFC number…?
I just applied for financial aid and I got an EFC of 175. What does this mean?

The EFC is what the financial aid office will use to determine your aid eligibility based on federal, state and institutional policies. Give your school’s aid office a couple of weeks to process your aid package. If you haven’t heard from them then give them a call for an update.

That’s what the FAFSA estimated that your family will be able to contribute toward your education for the year. 175 is not a large EFC so you’ll be eligible for more aid.

It means that your family is not expected to contribute very much money at all towards your education. You will most likely receive a federal Pell grant and any other grant that applies. Also, if your school has a good endowment, you will probably get a lot of financial aid money.

You family is expected to contribute that much towards your tuition.
