To go to college in the U.S., you simply have to be in the country legally (some people even find that debatable). You can have a student visa, be a citizen, or be a resident alien. It doesn’t really matter.
In order to apply for federal aid though, you have to be eligible. This usually means you are a citizen or a legal resident alien (you have a green card).

Nope you don’t have to be a US citizen to go to college. You do have to prove that you are legally in the country: applications forms ask for social security numbers or student visas. However, you can take classes as a non-matriculated student. That means that you are not going to get a Degree even if you take all the classes.

no but u need an alien card or visa stating u r legally here…if you needed to be a US citizen so many colleges would go bankrupt

you dont have to be a US citizen to go to college in the US. Although, you do have to be a citizen to be eligible for any federal aid. you would only be eligible for private loans, if your credit allows.
