Teacher’s can be late because they are preparing to teach you.

Students are late for a variety of reasons.

I only punish students for coming in late when they are ALREADY at school. Students should be at school at least 20 minutes before start-time. Teachers are usually there an hour or two before-hand.

LOL, of course, when I’m late, my students give me hell. We have a rule-we must explain why we are late. Fair enough. Each person is repsonsible for himself.

Thats how it is the teachers get better treatment than students. Maybe if the teacher is late a lot too then the teacher wouldn’t mind if the students are a little late. Being late by like 30 minutes is bad and should deserve punishment, but if you’re late 5-10 minutes that should be okay.

I am very strict about tardiness. I think students need to learn to respect being on time, and not disrupt the class. But sometimes things just happen.

To answer your question, I don’t think a teacher should be late either, but sometimes it happens for both the teacher and the student. If my students come in late, I try to be consistent and require a late pass. If I am ever late (rarely), I accept their comments and do my punishment (such as, 5 minutes free time at end of class, apology to class).

It’s all in good fun, but I appreciate that my students have the right to call me on my mistakes, too. We’re all human!

If your late for my class, I use a technique called embarrassment. I let a student know that when your late for my class then your pretty much better off switching classes.

I am never late, as a teacher, to my class. I offer early morning tutoring where students can come in 1 or 2 hours early for extra help.

Because a student does not have authority over a teacher.

School administration, however, does have authority over teachers and can punish them for being late.

Administrators have that power…you, as a student, have not earned it. Based on your mastery of the English language, I believe your claim that you are getting shafted in your educational experience. I’d hate to put down another teacher, but I was never late one time when I had a first period class to teach.

Think of it like this.

If you had the whip (authority over class), you could punish her.

Since she has the whip (authority…), she can punish you.

Sucks dude, but just take the pill.

teachers punish students for being late because when you are late for school you are late for learning and getting a good eductation but when teachers are late it is either because they overslept and their car broke down or it is because of traffic in the morning

THey have authority to do so.

You do not.

When you obtain a position of authority in the future, you can abuse the privilege or gain respect from it.

I was given a detention for chewing gum. I told my teacher that i would spit out my gum as soon as he poured out his coffee. He gave me another detention and i told him that my gum chewing didn’t disrupt his lesson, however, i found it extremely annoying when he would stop talking and slurp his coffee. I got another detention (were up to 3 now) and i told him we needed to go to the principals office and continue our debate, and to include school policy for both students and faculty pertaining to food and drink in classrooms. End of discussion, I left and never served a single detention! I say to you, take this to whoever you can and find out what the policies are for faculty members at you school. Good luck!
