Hiyas!
I am impressed, I went to N. Carolina dept of Ed and I hunted everywhere on their website and I saw nothing about substituting teaching and getting a certification for it. My best advice would be, go to their website and call the toll free number and ask them.
You may need to call one of the local schools in your area and ask them how to obtain substitute certification. Maybe there is a form they have you send into the state and it goes directly through the schools instead of the state website.
Interesting.

well i actually am certified to be a substitute teacher and all i had to do was go to a community college and take a course, i think it was called Effective Teacher Training. It costs about $55 or $65 dollars and it wasnt very long, maybe between 2-3 weeks. i hope this helps you

The requirements vary from county to county to county. I taught in one county that only required an application, a pulse, and a HS diploma. I taught in one county that required at least a A.S. degree. The county I am in now requires Effective Teacher Training from the community college along with board approval of your application. The more education you have=the more pay (usually).

I am also from NC and you gotta go to a community college. Nash Community is the best.
