In order to be an Elementary Education teacher, do you have to have your 4 yr degree?

IN every state- you must have a 4 year degree. In states like NY, you must have a Masters within 5 years of receiving your teaching certificate.

To teach Pre-K you must also have a 4 year degree- and part of that must be in Early Childhood Education.

You will student teach in your content area- I have a minor in biology- so I student taught the 1st grade and 10th grade biology.

I would go to school and transfer credits to get the 4 year degree. With what you have, you can be a teaching assistant but the pay is not great and it’s often hard to find a job. Substitute teaching is hard, hard work!

You cannot be a teacher in ANY state unless you are certified. Either with a regular certification or a provisional. In areas with a high need for teachers, they may allow you a 2 year (or 1 year) provisional if you have your associates as long as you are enrolled in a teacher preparation program. But I think that is still a slim chance that would happen.

If you have a bachelors in anything you can more easily add a teaching certification. But just a 2 year won’t get you far in education. You could probably be a paraprofessional or teachers assistant, but not a teacher.

On the original Bill Cosby show, his daughter was going to quit school after 2nd grade. When her mom asked her what kind of job the little girl thought she could get going to school only through 2nd grade, the little girl responded that she would become a 1st grade teacher. Like what everone else is saying, it is harder than you think. A 4 year degree is the minimum. You might.. and I am saying might..be able too substitute in a school district that is desperate for subs.

The answer to this depends entirely upon which state you live in. Generally speaking, though, my guess would be that you have to have a four-year degree to be a teacher. It’s certainly that way in every state that I’m familiar with.

There are certification requirements to teach. These differ from state to state. Most of them, though, require you to submit a form, filled out by an educational institution, stating that you have taken courses to instruct you in the “art” of teaching.

In some states, the teacher shortage is so severe that they will hire you first, and then will find ways to get you your certification while you teach. The best thing to do is to check with your state’s department of education.

You need to recieve a bachelors degree and usually it takes about 4 years. It really depends on you, if your full time or part time. You start out at a community college taking your basics and build from their and transfer to a university. Don’t think about how long its takes to get through college, cause no matter what, it is worth it. It took me 5 years to finish but I have four kids and I am a single mom…I hope you work hard and achieve…good luck.

If teaching is your passion… finish your 4 year degree. It will make you a much better teacher, and it will help so much. Subbing is a lot of work and you need to have quite a bit of tricks up your sleeve. If you aren’t sure if teaching is in your future… go over seas and teach in a foreign country for a year. They are always looking for people to help teach ESL (English as a second language). This gives you great experience, travel and money. I have a few friends in South Korea right now teaching, one of them went to school for teaching, the other 2 went for travel and tourism and something to do with Chemistry. I had another friend who went to Ukraine and taught for a while and she went to school for her business degree. Another friend went to japan to teach, she did graduate with me with a teaching degree. If you love to travel, take a year off and go teach overseas. Many times your room and board is taken care of and you can earn 20-27,000 for your stay. You get vacation and weekends off. Just check into your college’s teaching abroad or your career services center to find some legit companies to work with. Talk to people who have used them and their experience… All of my friends that have done this have said it was the best experience they have ever had. I would have done it as well, but I was pregnant and decided to say around my area here. But best of luck to you!

What I was basically told is that if you have your AA and want to be a teacher you cant do anything with it. You need your BA, credentials, and I know in California you have to pass 3 tests. There are more loops to go through to be a teacher than most people expect.

i think a 4yr is the minimum. to sub i think you only need 2 yrs. in some states. it just depends on your the school and what state. private schools might accept but my mom teaches in a public ohio school and you usually need a masters degree to even get hired.

Gotta have a bachelors. Unless you work for Pre-K and even then the degree has to be in child development
