Can anyone who is currently enrolled in a masters of ed program from the Univ. of Phoenix tell me about it?

I am not in Phoenix’s program, but my advice would be to ask your state department of education whether they accept this degree before pursuing it.

I obtained my M.S.E. and loved it. I allowed time for family, friends, and a full time job that followed me home. I was so impressed with the professors that I have enrolled in the PhD program and start in a few weeks.

It is a great learning environment that allows for colleague learning and self discovery, making you responsible for learning and knowing the material. I finished the program in less than two years. Each course is an eight week course with a week in-between for a small break. If you feel overwhelmed, you can ask for a break and pick up right where you left off, like you never even missed the eight weeks.

I can tell you in Florida that the alternate route is extremely difficult and time consuming – not to mention the time you are going to spend in and out of the classroom. I actually quit after 6 months. I have a BS in Advertising, but found that I simply could not get everything done that was required. It’s a tough program that is meant to sift through the people that really want to do it. Once I had exposure to the school system and realized that the standards and rules according to the NCLB act were so strict – I realized it wasn’t for me.

If you don’t have a teaching certificate, you need a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and fulfill you state’s requirements to be certified. As for UP, it depends on your local school district. Some will accept their degrees, and others won’t. Call your local school board office or state department of education. They can give you the answers you need.
