the most prestigious on this list are amherst and williams, they are small liberal arts schools in the northeast that have served many generations of new england’s elite.

texas and penn state are huge public institutions. texas is the more selective of the two.

NYU is the most popular school in new york, and is one of the largest private universities in the nation. it has great film and arts programs.

boston u and boston college are breeding grounds for future yuppies of america. both are very good schools.

brandeis has a lot of jewish students.

if your academic credentials are top notch, i would decide first if you want a small liberal arts college environment (amherst), a midsize university (boston college), or a big university (texas). then narrow it down.

Penn State was my second choice to NYU, but I am so glad that I chose Penn State. I had an awesome college experience, socially and academically. I went to the main campus (University Park) as a freshman… there are numerous campuses throughout the state, but getting into University Park is as competitive as many of the schools on your list. Many people have to start out at a branch, which is good if you are not ready for a big school (University Park has something like 38,000 undergrads) or your academics are less than stellar. Some pros are the choices of majors and classes, the social scene, football weekends, opportunities for internships, research, etc., and the many many groups and clubs on campus. Pretty much there is something for everyone at Penn State. The cons are that many classes are taught by grad students (I didn’t mind but some people do), there is not a lot of diversity, and classes tend to be large lectures during the first two years (good if you want to sleep, but hard to get one on one attention). Once you are in your major though, the classes do get smaller and it is easier to form relationships with professors. Oh, another con is the “We are Penn State” cheer…. isn’t that obvious by now?!

It varies between people, personally I think that all of these schools are high in education and I have heard that the teachers do their jobs very well. There hasn’t been many complaints either but I do know that some of the schools struggle with how clean it is everyday. I, personally think that the Trinity College is the best overall. But that’s just me.

Good luck if you are trying to choose~!~
