what do i do? WILL I STILL GET INTO A GOOD COLLEGE???????????

I had a real tough third year in high school and failed all my classes but two both semesters. I now have an overall GPA of a 2.4. I used to get good grades but i didn’t try in this years AP courses and didn’t pass the exams. I plan on getting straight A’s my senior year to get a better GPA. But can i still go to a good college. i don’t want to go to a community college. I got good SAT scores and SAT subject test scores, and i am going to take them again to get really good scores. I made up my classes in summer school all but english which i will be taking at a community college. Do I stand a chance at being accepted at a good college. Thank You!! Please help me!!!ANYONE WHO KNOWS OF A SIMILAR SITUATION AND HAS EXPERIENCE IN THIS AREA OR CAN GIVE GOOD ADVICE TO HELP ME!!! THANKS!!

Colleges look at the “overall” package, so GPA is not the only factor. In addition, solid SAT scores can do wonders. There are many factors that are difficult to judge, but it will look quite good if you can shift from failing to straight A’s. It will show that you have matured and that you have gained focus. You probably cannot get into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or any of the elite schools, but you still could get into a solid school. I’d guess that you could squeak into a tier 3 school on US News and World Reports yearly rankings. The main think for you is to focus intensely on school now and get those straight A’s. Good luck.

It really does depend on which school you choose. Many State Universities have a 2.75 Minimum GPA acceptance. Others of higher quality may only accept 3.0 and above. Now to be honest, it may be a bit of a rough ride in trying to attain that 2.75 considering that you are currently at a 2.4 level. If you are looking for a more definite prediction of your GPA there are quite a few GPA calculators online right now. The number of credits that you currently have along with your current GPA and the number of credits that you plan to take your senior year all factor into the calculation. You may not like the answer that you receive, but at least you can stop wondering what to expect.

Unfortunately, no matter how well you score on the SAT’s these only play a partial role in what is actually figured into colleges decision making process.

Bottom line, you’ll be working your butt off (depending on what school you choose) but it is definitely possible to still get into a good university. So please stop stressing out and try to remain focused on your goal at hand.

well im in a similar situation right now. i did miserable in 10th grade. but i managed to bring my GPA up to a 2.8 not great i know. but i will try much harder senior year. i did ok on the SATs. but not great. most people tell me i can still get into a decent school. and for u though ur GPA is less then mine u probably have better SAT scores so i think ull be ok. a killer essay will help u and sometimes colleges will ask for senior year grades and they should see that u brought up ur grades. there are many colleges in the US and at least one of them will admitt u. im sure u wont end up at a community college. i dont know want to go to one either… haha talk to your guidance counselor, she could help u find schools that will still admit u. dont give up!!!

step 1: stop worrying. worrying won’t help you at all.

step 2: stop paying attention to the “good colleges” (step 3 explains).

step 3: concentrate on learning. if you concentrate on learning, the degree is a side-product that says you know what you’re doing.

step 4: when you have confidence in your abilities, go to the “good colleges”, and shell out the bigger bucks so that you can get a degree with a fancier well known name on it.

essentially, the facts will never change in most basics. and “advanced” courses just build up from the basics.

so if you have your basics settled, then you can pretty much go wherever you want.

In the end, it’s more about how you apply what you learned, not how high your scores were.

dude. you had a rough time. but if you recover and actually get the straight As, you’ll get into college.

try for your state school. or affiliates of your state school.

and if your SAT score was above a 1800, then you should be fine.

trust me, i know many 2.4s who didnt go to community college. and with your SAT scores and good senior grades, you’ll be fine!!

i’m sorry to say this but a lot of selective collegs stress your high school record. especially junior year. i would say, try to get your other factors up and then try to apply to as many collegs as you can. if you get into a small city or state school (even community college) don’t worry, you can always transfer in.
