The real thing you need is important parents with six digits.

Seriously. =/

You need to start putting your name in NOW. Ivy League schools are not fair game to anyone. Only to rich people – and that’s just unarguable.

At the high school where I tutor for AP courses there were 17 kids who went to the Ivy league this year, plus one each to Duke, Stanford, MIT and UChicago.

They all had averages over 100, they all had SATs in the 2200+ range and each one of them had at least one (and several had multiple) National or State championships or medals in Sci Oly, Math Oly, sports, debate or music.

Your records are good, but frankly I don’t think they are quite good enough. But you have one more term to really knock the socks off something and create a standout resume. What are you going to do?

In any case, you should apply, because you don’t know what quirky thing the Ivy school you want is going to use as a tiebreaker for admission this year….

ps only about 3 of these 20 kids were from what I would call a “rich” family. Mostly strictly middle class and couple were from immigrant families. It is true that if you dont come from a family that is educated and that values education, you are likely not to be well enough prepared to fit in at an Ivy.
