Do you think people in high school who don’t learn as fast as others are still capable of being successful?
Learning not as fast as others like having to REALLY study for tests and quizzes.

Well of course they are capable of being successful. It is my experience that some teaching methods simply do not reach all the students in the same class. If you learn what you study, even slowly, work hard at it, spend a lot of time studying, a high school student could still get good grades, or maybe even the best. There is no reason they can’t continue to college and become professionals if they study, even slowly, as long as they get it in the end.

I don’t think that test taking abilities have anything to do with intelligence or potential. There are so many other things going on in high school besides curriculum that it is hard to say if it is a learning disability that is slowing you down or just the distraction of cliques, what to wear, where you sit in the lunch room, and so on. There are so many online high schools accepting students now, and many people who have had problems in traditional high schools have flourished in an online high school. There are also many books on training yourself on test taking, vitamin supplements to improve your memory, etc. In closing, I definitely think that everyone learns at different speeds, it only makes it worse to compare yourself to others.

I have been a special education teacher for many years…7th and 8th grade. Most of my students have learning disabilities so they do not learn as fast as many other students. I have students who have gone on to college and have done very well. I think you will do better in most everything you do because you have had to work harder than others. For those that don’t have to study as hard, they will not be used to working as hard as you when it comes to college or any job you do.

Yes it’s definitely possible. My husband was in basic high school classes and some remedial math classes in college but he went on to become a scientist. He is very successful and has a great job. He always had to study much harder than me and he reads more slowly than I do, but he has a better job and makes more money than me.

I myself am a fast learner. I catch on quick, finish the work and move on.
My husband isn’t as fast. He likes to think about his stuff, analyze it in different ways, and make sure he gets the concept down.
Who do you think made the better grades? Neither.
Who remembers what they learned? Not me. He still plays piano songs he learned 35 years ago.
Mine goes in one ear and out the other.
His goes in one ear and builds a nest.

Absolutely. In fact I would have to say more so because those that have to try harder learn more by learning how to work hard for what they want. Those that get everything handed to them on a silver platter always want things handed to them on that silver platter. They may get things faster than you now, but in the end you are learning that putting in the extra effort pays off. And they won’t learn that for a while if it is easy for them.

Yes, of course.
Slower learning is learning and is therefore beneficial on any level. Yet, things move very fast now. Stay aware of the challenge and work your butt off to improve.

yes! most definately- we were just talkin bout this in church on sunday- the kids in high school that are “super smart” meaning they dont have to study cuz they just use wat they already have from their former knowledge do okay in high school because the standards arent too high- but 60% of those same kids dont do nearly as well once they get to the higher level of education for the simple fact that they never learned how to properly study because they always just “knew it”- therefore- those who actually have to work for their grades in high school do better down the road! have no worries megan- you’ll do fine and succeed- just keep workin for it- and keep ur eye on the prize!!

Absolutely. I learn pretty fast, yet I’m not as successful as I’d like to be, mainly because of laziness.

Yes! for a fax im one of them worked for a temp service without a H.S.diploma and was told that the company would never hire me .And 2 months later that company did hire me so know for a fax some people should need not prove that and education over hard working people doesn’t matter.
