Not usually. I have used tons and tons of prep books over the years and took tons of AP exams. This is what I learned… The publishing companies print new versions of the books each year because they want ppl to buy the most current version so they can make more money. A lot of the time, everything else besides the printing date is exactly the same. Trust me, I compared different versions of AP review books word for word, and most of the time they are exactly the same. There are only three exeptions to this: 1. If the book is really, really old (like 10 years old), then it will probably be outdated. 2. If the book is a really new edition (like the 1st or 2nd) it might be outdated. More is changed between editions at the beginning. 3. If the subject is something like history, which changes constantly, it might be outdated if it is a few years old. In all other cases, don’t fall in the trap of the publishers. Save your money. Good luck on your AP exam!!

In general, yes. The format of some AP exams have changed over the years. Using an exam prep guide is as much about preparing you for the format as it is about learning/reviewing the material. And… why study extra info you won’t need?
