How serious is UCSD about their freshman contract?

I recently found out I had a 2.83 for my second semester senior year, although I need a 3.0 to attend UCSD, where I submitted my intent to register. I have two C+’s, three B’s and one A. Two of the classes are AP, though. Is the GPA weighted or unweighted? The 2.83 is unweighted. I also got the Regent’s Scholarship from UCSD, 2K a year. So even if I do still get accepted, would they take this away?

(Really, my teacher told me he would boost up my 89.45 to an A-, but he DIDN’T. I SHOULD have a 3.0.)

Although I can’t speak from personal experience, I do not believe that UCSD will revoke your admission in your situation because you’ve passed your classes. From what I’ve heard from others, you may need to explain to them why your grades fell below the requirement. However, whether the GPA is weighted or not, the only way to make sure is to call UCSD. Call their admissions office and they should be able to help you.

As far as your scholarship is concerned, I do not believe it is contingent on your Senior year. I know that a Regent’s Scholar is required to maintain a certain GPA in college but yours is not a full-ride scholarship. However, even if you lose it for whatever the reason, I don’t think it’s something that you should lose sleep over. Yes, you will not feel good about it but what really counts is how you do once you get to UCSD because there are so many other scholarships. The classes will be challenging so if you happened to slack off during Senior year, you will have to pick things up again.

Definitely call UCSD and keep bugging them until you get all your questions answered. Remember that you are paying for their salary. Also get used to being initiative because you will no longer be spoon-fed once you get to college. Good luck and enjoy!

From what I’ve heard, I don’t think UCSD is that strict. I know students who have had a “D,” made a plea, and still got to attend SD. “C”s are okay, and if you round up, your GPA meets the minimum requirement! I don’t know about the Regent’s Scholarship though. You should call the Admissions office to double-check on where you stand.
