Econ or engineering major?

Hey I’m deciding between these two…I love math/statistics, but econ seems too business oriented whereas engineering aims at changing the world…Though I plan on staying in school to become a professor…any thoughts?

(BTW if I were to pick engineering, it would be chemical engineering.)

Engineering is much better.

Well, engineering might be a tougher, and definitely a more regimented, direction. Engineering requires more calculus, while economics is more statistics oriented. Engineering generally also requires you to learn things like physics and computer programming. Engineering majors often times don’t have a lot of say in what courses they take, while economics is probably more flexible and would let you take classes in other subjects too.

Of course, if you’re looking to eventually become a professor (which presumably means graduate school and a PhD), then really you should choose the major which most interests and excites you, the one which you would even do a little work on the side just because you are curious. The major which has those charactaristics to the largest extent is the one you should go for if you’re aiming to be a professor.

I graduated from undergrad with a degree in chemical engineering and I took several entry level econ classes: micro/macro 101 and intermediate micro. Totally different experiences in both the subjects taught and expectations in the students. ChE is more cut and dry, Econ is more theory. ChE is way more math intensive than Econ, ChE involves some math that most people never even heard of. My parents always joked with me that my text books were written in hieroglyphics. But having only taken 3 econ classes, not sure I can really compare the two. All I have to say is if you want to become a professor in chemical engineering, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. I knew several students that dropped out of ChE and then majored in Econ.

But about economists not changing the world, you should google the name John Nash.

i haven’t truly given it any theory, yet i don’t see the rationalization in the back of the derision. I advise….do the those which you’re telling this to even recognize what that important truly is? lol. how are you able to in comparison to financial majors. they are in a position to get extreme point jobs making 6 figures working for the governmet, some great banks (even nevertheless those are interior the tank suitable now), or great companies. suitable now…an ecomnomist is the Presidet’s suitable hand guy. in spite of, do you, boo. in case you go with to important in econ, important in econ. Hell, important in pooping, with a minor in farting as long because it makes you satisfied. stable success babe.

Non-profits and government need economists too.

Engineering can also be very business oriented. such as designing a new chemical to pollute the atmosphere.
