I can really sympathize. My parents were afraid that I would drop out of high school, because I was soooo unmotivated. Thank goodness I did, because I now have a master’s degree and two doctorates! The main problem I had was that I was not challenged enough in high school. If it is the same for you, then find some way to set up contests for yourself – for example, pick someone in class who is as bright as you are, and promise yourself that your paper or project will be better than hers or his (don’t tell them that you are competing with them. Just do it for your own satisfaction). Or find some way of making the work deeper and more challenging than the teachers intended it to be. The key is that if the standards being set for you are not enough to motivate you, you need to set your own standards. Keep in mind that the leaders in society don’t just do what they are told; they establish and meet their own standards. The most successful college students do the same, and you may as well start a bit early!

I had a problem like this, I was really unmotivated until around my sophomore year when I started researching colleges. I found schools i truly wanted to attend but with the way I was going, that wasnt going to be a possibility. That helped turn me around. I joined a few extracurricular clubs, and worked hard on my schoolwork. I was not an A student, no matter how hard I tried the only A’s I could get were in my art history class. This started to affect me but I continued working hard. My GPA finishing highschool was nothing to brag about, its a 2.7, but because the schools I applied to saw how my grades improved throughout the years (which is a good sign to schools) I was accepted to all I applied to. Just start looking into what you want to do with your future, and that may just help motivate you to work a little bit harder.

Also realize that for almost any job today you need at least a high school diploma, though most ask for an associates degree.

I was thankfully not home schooled so probably cannot give a properly balanced answer – however…. I feel that you would benefit from at least a a year of outside schooling School will bring you into contact with a wide group of people. with differing personalities, beliefs, sexual identities and so on. Thats what the real world is like, and thats what home schooling protects you from In the real, working world you will encounter bullies, snobs, men who act in an inapproriate manner (and girls for that matter) – those who will put you down, and those who will take you for anything you have. If you become an actress you will encounter all these people. As an actress your outer persona is all that matters, I would strongly advise you try high school – if only to learn that all people are not as you would expect – but they are all just the same as you deep down – same insecurities etc. But will use your insecurities to bolster their own egos Its only through the mistakes we make as teens that we become well rounded adults. Going from a sheltered home schooling background to LA will shock you with the shallowness of it all – but in a good way. Being new as a senior will toughen u up and give u some great lessons for life Good luck! I hope u reach your dreams x

Good job staying in school. If you really don’t like high school sometimes, just keep thinking of how happy you’ll be with the diploma in your hand.

Have an image in your head of your ideal career and future situation, and keep reminding yourself that you need this high school education to achieve that.

Remember that high school can really suck sometimes, but don’t let it get to you because your future is at stake. And you arent the only one–alot of ppl are unhappy in high school. When you’re feeling really down about it, just remember that nothing worth having is easy, and that all you have to do is to tough it out for just a few more years. And that you are mature and smart enough to keep going.

Good luck!
