How many years of graduate school is required to become a nuclear engineer?

My college roommate’s boyfriend is a nuclear engineer. He did four years of undergrad and got a great job with Duke Power. Now he’s going back to get his masters along with working, but he’s only doing it to open up more job opportunities within the company. The masters degree is 39 credit hours, so that’s like one and a half to two years or more full time.

To my knowledge, becoming a nuclear engineer, you don’t need graduate school. Though I am not an engineering major, many of my friends are. Usually they go to an undergraduate school for five to six years taken strenuous classes.

However, I’m sure you could get a graduate degree in nuclear engineering or nuclear physics, but I don’t know how much schooling would be required for such a degree.
