How do I find out which are the best nursing schools?
those annual “reports” that rank schools are based on such arbitrary things… and the various lists are always different from each other.
anyway, mostly what’s important to me is small class size, individual attention, excellent instructors. affordability is up there too. any thoughts?
thanks…

Affordability doesn’t have to be a big issue. There are lots of grants or forgivable loans for nursing students, and some hospitals will recruit you by offering to pay some or all of your loans off.
Start with where you are. Call the local hospital and talk to the administrator or director of nursing service. Ask where their best nurses come from. Call the State Board of Nurse Examiners to find which school has the highest pass rates on the nursing boards or licensing exam.
If you meant best in some other way, like which ones are easy or fun, you can find that out by asking nurses at doctors offices and hospitals.

you will probably find what you are looking for at a community college rather than a large university. the nice thing about community colleges is that you can get your associate in nursing and continue on at a larger school for your bachelors. also you can then work while going to school if you so desire.if your goal is at the bedside some hospitals offer excellent internships and our eager to hire a new grad whether assoc or bach.

Research, research, research. Call the facilities you are looking at and request information. If you know anyone who attends or has attended the institutions, ask them. Use whatever sources of info you can come up with to get the information you need before making a decision.

Look at their NCLEX exam pass rates. You have to pass the licensing exam in order to work as a RN, and if you don’t pass the licensing exam, it doesn’t matter what school you go to.
