This is a little like asking which is the best soda/cola product. Everyone has an opinion. In reality, the only opinion that counts is yours. Instead of focusing on which state has the best college (in someone else’s opinion) or which college has the best rankings, focus on finding the college that is best for YOU.

Notre Dame (most recognized for smartest athletes, by far)

Purdue (#1 for graduates that become astronauts; top 3 engineering)

Rose-Hulman Institute Of Technology (top 3 engineering)

Wabash (politician’s undergrad haven)

DePauw (it’s just a good school)

Massachuesettes has a lot of good ones.

California also has a lot of good ones.
