Can I send a letter without a returning address?

I want to send someone a letter but I dont want them to know my new address since I moved. He’s in the military and this last letter I want to send him is telling him I wont be writing to him anymore and good luck in life. He’s an ex that still writes and I want to move on without having to receive a letter from him every week during his training. I could be mean and not tell him and ignore him, but I’m not like that.

Can I not post a return address and send it still? And since its the Army I’m sending it to, will that affect anything? And can I write a little message or short statement in the return address spot in place of the address?

Please let me know if anyone can help me! Thanks

If course!! If I was writing to you from the UK, I wouldn’t put a return address on the outside of the letter – no-one does here as a matter of course!!

Yes, you can even mail it from a different town if you want to hide the mailed town on the postmark. Or you can just use a return address that’s wrong. I guess the concern is that you address it to the right person in the household. I’m not sure if mail is the right way to break up with someone (I’m sure there are reasons why it might be preferred), but that wasn’t the question.

You don’t have to put a return address. You normally put a return address in case the address was wrong, then they can send it back to you. I wouldn’t recommend putting a message in the return address, although you might be able to.

Go ahead. You only need return address if you want it returned in case the letter doesn’t reach him. And, as a military member, just don’t put anything girly or smelly on the envelope and it’ll be fine. As for a little message, you could put your name, wouldn’t put much more.

Yes, you can send a letter without a return address on it…BUT…when the post office “cancels” the stamp on it, …it will have the name of the town on the cancellation.

He will know what town it came from, so to prevent that, drive to another town and mail it from there.

I have done it many times. just know that if the address you send it to is wrong there is no way you can get it back.
