It’s known by the top row of the English keyboard –QWERTY. That was a misconception about the keys jamming with the alphabetical layout. DVORAK is the faster keyboard, named after the person who contrived it. DVORAK has the most used keys all in a row. the QWERTY was originally planned to balance the work of both hands.

Its the qwerty keyboard because the first six letters are qwerty.

The keyboard is arranged to have the most used letters at your finger tips and the least used letters farther out. Like x and z are hard to reach but others are easy to find.

Learn to type using the correct finger position and you will become a speed typer.

Having the letters in alphabetical order and poking at them is way too slow.

qwerty is the name of the standard typewriter keyboard layout. The layout was started for mechanical typewriters and linotype machines because frequently used letters were sticking when typed too closely together. Layout moves the keys to opposite sides of the keyboard.

Since we do not use mechanical typewriters this is no longer necessary, but too many people trained in the current layout to implement change, although there are non standard keyboards out there.

The name is QWERTY. It’s a pretty bad arrangment but it was made so that typewriters would stop getting stuck. It’s named after the first six letters of the top row.
