Where does the expression “I’ll keep you posted” come from?

Post it notes have thrust human evolution forward.

It is a phrase invented by the postal system administrators to encourage people to buy more stamps, send more letters and use post offices regularly so they can feed the mail-men and mail-women too. And if you believe that you might believe in just about anything. We need voters like you. Keep it up.

I think it comes from post as in postal deliveries.

Meaning I will take the responsibility to keep you informed.

British English, “I will post it.” American English, “I will mail it.”

In the old days there were TWO post deliveries every day, so you could receive a communication (morning post) and answer it the same day (afternoon post).

A very long time ago. a post was connected to a mail system. So it became a catchy phrase, “I will keep you posted”

my best guess is it originated when the postal system was used to communicate with folks…. before telegraphs, phones, computers.

they’d send a “post” to update others on what was happening.

it comes from old days in 1100 AD ,when they tied person on post for days!
