Define the word assassinated?

The word can be defined as a premeditated killing, usually of a notable political figure; i.e., Lincoln, Kennedy et al. The motive varies from an act of hate, political justification, or as a warped idealism, designed to prevent further action from the victim.

Assassinated- The past tense form of the action of killing a person of great power and/or respect. Usually done secretly, quickly, and without making a big show of it. Modern day assassination is normally done by a sniper with a high powered sniper rifle or by a bomb.

This is an incomplete list of persons who were assassinated; that is, important people who were murdered, usually for ideological or political reasons.

A fancier name for the murdering of somebody who holds power. You never say my next door neighbor was shot and assassinated, however when somebody who holds power i.e. JFK is shot to death he was “assassinated.”
