In my 2 last stories, I described a fateful hayride that several residents of Dodge went on. The hayride had culminated at an old, deserted house….An old, deserted GHOST HOUSE!!
Once back in town, everyone was still recovering from all the frightening events.
Kitty:”I swear to God!!! I will NEVER listen to Festus again.
(2) No way, no how!” She took another gulp of her rotgut!
Festus, who had just walked in, overheard her.
Festus:”(1) Well, that’s a fine how-do-you-do! How was I to know the place was REALLy haunted? I thought it was just a
story that some younguns had made up.”
Doc wiped his face as he always does and glared at Festus.
Doc:”Well now you KNOW!! The next time….The VERY next time you plan an outing for all of us, do everyone a favor……….DON’T!!”
Festus:”(6) Well, don’t that beat all !?” He got up and left the saloon.
Doc yelled after him……”(5) GET A LIFE !”
Festus yelled back……(4) “WHY DON’T YOU….GET….A…..
WHY DON’T YOU GET A CLUE !!”
Doc:”THAT DIDN’T EVEN MAKE SENSE, YOU IMBECILE !!”
Festus took his ruffled feathers over to U.S.Marshal Matt Dillon’s office. Matt was just finishing up some paperwork. His girlfriend, Sunshine MacGillicutty, was there with him. Both had been on the infamous hayride.
Festus:”Hello Matthew. Miss Sunshine.”
Matt looked up, with an expression that screamed out>>What do YOU want!!
Festus:”Don’t tell me that you’re mad at me, too, Matthew?”
Matt:”Festus….That was the worse hayride I have EVER been on…..Ghosts,goblins,dead bodies…….Geeze!!!” He went back to his work.
Sunshine smiled and said:”Festus….I thought it was GREAT fun!! I had a ball! Let’s go back there again, sometime.”
Festus:” Well I’m plum grateful to you, maam. Now you see, Matthew. THERE’S the spirit ! Sunshine has the right attitude. Why can’t you be more fun lovin’ like she is?”
Matt got up from the desk, took Sunshine’s arm and started out the door. As he put his hat on, he turned to face Festus.
Matt:” Festus….The next time you plan an event……Do us all a favor……DON’T!!”
Festus:”Whyyyyyyy….That’s just what old Doc said.”
Matt:” Mmmmmmmm……….. (3)Pip pip and doodly do.”
