.) Handstand – By far THE most important single skill in the sport. You can’t do many skills on any event without passing through a handstand at some point.
.) Rolls (Forward and Backward) – Without the rolls, there would be no flips, and without the single flip there would be no doubles or triples.
.) Back-bend (Bridge) – All arching skills (walkovers, handsprings, flips, etc.) are derived from this most basic position.
.) Twisting – It all starts with the first jump half turn you do, and can eventually progress into a triple twisting double layout. You can twist in a jump, a flip, or during a skill with your hand still on the equipment. Twisting is the best way of taking your skill set to the next level.
.) The Swing – Although you don’t swing your whole body on every event, swinging is important enough to put here because without the proper swing you can’t do much on any set of bars, pommel horse, or still rings…even beam needs the use of swings.
So, I hope that was what you were looking for when you referred to elements. If not, and you were looking for general attributes that you’ll need to excel, then I would have to say…
